Research results on the characteristics of reaction-sintered silicon carbide grinding

Grinding of reaction-sintered silicon carbide products by means of various characterization methods and test methods, the surface and sub-surface morphology of the reaction-sintered silicon carbide ceramics after grinding are studied, and the surface roughness and material hardness of the material are analyzed. The effects of parameters such as table speed, grinding depth and tempering time on the surface roughness Ra, grinding efficiency, surface morphology and subsurface microstructure of SiC after grinding were studied. The specific method is to grind the reaction-sintered silicon carbide product with a diamond grinding wheel, and observe the grinding characteristics such as surface morphology, residual stress and bending strength.


The results show that the reaction-sintered silicon carbide products are mainly removed by brittle fracture, and the localized area is plastically removed. As the axial feed increases, the surface roughness of the reaction-sintered silicon carbide article increases, and a suitable light knife can be performed to reduce the roughness. As the axial feed increases, the cooling effect of the grinding zone of the reaction-sintered silicon carbide article is weakened, and the value of the grinding residual compressive stress is lowered.
